Green and Blue financing mechanism (Latin America)

Within the framework of an initiative led by CAF – Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean, technical support was provided for the structuring of a Blue-Green Financing Mechanism to mobilize US$3 billion for the restoration, conservation and protection of 1 million hectares of Key Biodiversity Areas in the region.

As part of the project, an assessment of investment needs and opportunities was conducted in five countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, focusing on biodiversity projects, nature-based solutions, and large-scale infrastructure that are compatible with bird and ecosystem conservation. This mechanism seeks to direct funding to initiatives that contribute to both climate action and the protection of the region’s most valuable and vulnerable ecosystems.
